A handrail was added to the existing porch to match the present design.
This job showcases Ever Green's experience in matching stain colors
(Even more difficult then matching paint).
Here's the details:
1. HANDRAIL BUILT. Non pressure-treated cedar and fir
was used to build this handrail to match the present design. Edges were
sanded round, an additional lower handrail was added for dual-level support,
and new stair treads were installed.
* In an effort to reduce materials going to a landfill,
the old 2x6 stair treads are being reused as a raised bed garden. *
2. STAIN FRONT DECK TO MATCH. Difficult for two reasons
on this job.
A. The porch had lots of bare wood with no base stain.
B. Two different kinds of new wood were installed.
So, we had to match new wood to old, and old within itself.
This required mixing two different stain tints together, then layering
coats.
YOU BE THE JUDGE!
3. BACK DECK RESTORATION. Completely exposed to the weather
with no sun exposure, this deck was extremely slick, and starting to present
softening. Ever Green pressure washed the deck, then scrubbed in a natural
based cleaning solution, pressure washed again, and finished with two
coats of Timberpro low VOC water-based Lava tint.
